Geese from Holden

Swans on the reserve. (Steve

news received from Julia Newth. "Northerly winds sweeping through over the
past couple of days have brought much colder weather, and with clear skies,
there were two new arrivals yesterday and 14 today bringing the reserve total to
21! This compares with 17 at the same time last year. Our oldest known
swan here at the moment is Danuta (ringed YLL) who is ten (see pic 2 below). She
first arrived here as a cygnet with parents Dan and Dane in 1996 and arrived
yesterday with her mate Danut (look out for his striking penny-face bill pattern
– see pic 1 below). It was also lovely to see the return of Artenay and Juppe
(TXD) who have been a pair since 2002. Artenay is the offspring of one of our
most consistent visitors Lille who we are hoping will return soon for her
eighteenth winter at Slimbridge". Pic 3 below is of new yearling Wylfa
